Grounded in Tradition, United for the Future

The Anindilyakwa people’s connection to land, language, and traditions reflects a legacy of strength, guiding future generations with pride.
Did you know?
Anindilyakwa is the first language spoken among all 14 clan groups of the archipelago and is thought to be one of the most ancient languages in Australia.
The communities of Angurugu, Umbakumba and Milyakburra are home to 1500 people who strongly embrace their culture and ceremonial traditions.
Cultural traditions, knowledge and skills are passed on to the younger Anindilyakwa generations by their families as well as through programs such as the Learning on Country partnership between Elders and young people.

Yirriwerrkilyelying majungwunama yarningangkawura ngawa yarna

We are strong people. We have much to be proud of.

Our language, our culture, our songlines, our dance.
Knowledge and stories are within us, with our people the
Anindilyakwa speakers of this beautiful archipelago.

Together we can make a difference.
