What we do

At GEBIE, we are dedicated to supporting our Communities by driving initiatives that promote economic development, social well-being, and sustainable growth.

Our work focuses on key areas such as employment services, training and education programs, business ventures, and Community support projects. Through these efforts, we aim to create lasting benefits for the Warnindilyakwa people, improving quality of life and opening up opportunities for future generations.

Community Development Program

The GEBIE Community Development Program (CDP) provides case management, employment services, and vocational training to nearly 700 people in the Groote Eylandt Archipelago.

CDP offers tailored services, including driver training, workshops, and pilot projects like the Next Generation Project for youth. GEBIE CDP is trialing initiatives in hospitality and construction, with plans for a new contract in June 2025 to further enhance services and promote economic development.

Green Ant

Green Ants

Green Ants is a business employing four Warnindilyakwa people to provide a garden maintenance service for households in the mining township of Alyangula.

The business evolved from a Work For The Dole project which employed four people in 2008. The members of that original team provided such a good service that GEBIE took them on board as full-time workers.

For almost a decade this business has become a flagship for local Indigenous employment in Alyangula where around 95 per cent of the population is non-Indigenous.

Green Ants have an excellent reputation in the Community as they do a great job and show a good work ethic, just like their namesake.
